Taxi and Takeoff

Post by 334th_Padre » Fri Jan 26, 2018 2:51 am

Taxi and Take-off in Cliffs of Dover is a bit different to flying in IL2.

You can taxi out to the field and run across the grass and take-off, but the chance of collision crossing the designated runway is high, so unless under scramble conditions, it's advised to taxi to the correct end.

Spawning in a hangar, you have no choice but to taxi first.
When you've taxyed out of the hangar, you're looking for yellow marker boards indicating the take-off runway and direction as per the wind settings in the server. They look like this ..........
You could end up at the wrong end of the field, and the boards would look like this....
Follow the boards until you see the end of the runway. There is usually a windsock at the end of the runway, and some runways have a red and white checkered runway caravan which are used by air traffic controllers.

Once you're lined up on the runway, and maybe if your flight of plonkers is all ready to go, it's time to power up and get airborne.
Again that's not an easy task. You can't just power up max and not crash. You have to go to 50%, get rolling, control the torque with rudder and aileron, pass through 60%, push the nose down to raise the tail, and open her up and then you're away ....
